Slow Cooker Ham Hock Beans

This easy Ham Hock baked beans recipe uses three types of canned beans, is perfectly sweet with a kick of heat if you’d like and is made in your slow cooker! They are perfect for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

Ingredients

  • 1 ham hock
  • 1 cup chicken stock
  • 1 cup diced tomato
  • 3 cans of drained beans (1 can mixed beans, 1 can chickpeas, 1 can butter beans)
  • 1 red onion, diced
  • 3 garlic cloves, diced finely
  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp chilli flakes (optional)
  • 3 sprigs of fresh rosemary

Instructions

  1. Prepare the slow cooker by adding all the ingredients to it, then push the ham hock into the liquid. Insert the 3 sprigs of rosemary into the mixture.
  2. Place the lid on and cook on low for 8-10 hours or on high for 3-4 hours.
  3. Leave to cool in the pot overnight.
  4. The next morning, remove the hock and strip all the meat from it, discarding the bones and skin.
  5. Place the diced ham meat back into the pot and stir through evenly.
  6. Heat the beans in a small pan and cook until the sauce has reduced and thickened. Serve.

 

Hints and Tips

  • These beans are versatile and suitable for any meal.
  • For breakfast, serve over toast with a poached egg or crumble feta over the top.
  • For lunch, serve over a hot buttery baked potato with parmesan cheese.
  • For dinner, serve over rice with garlic bread on the side.
  • Store in the fridge for 3-4 days. Suitable for freezing. Consider freezing in individual portions for easy breakfasts or lunches.
